We absolutely loved working with Alicia & Christian! They are truly the coolest. Alicia is a photographer and is in the industry so we instantly jibed. These two had a vision and knew what they wanted, which makes our job a breeze. Cheers to you, Alicia & Christian! We wish you nothing but success in all your endeavors. Alicia shared some more details below.
What is your connection to Leelanau County?
We absolutely love the area. It has some of the most beautiful views in the world! We love hiking, kayaking and enjoying the serene setting of the dunes and lakes. It’s our happy place.
Briefly describe your style as a couple.
We are both creatives. Christian is a creative director, and Alicia Is a photographer. We are both very visually oriented. We learned we’re both passionate when it comes to architecture, interior design, art, music, and our two french bulldogs. We’ve spent the last few years lovingly re-designing our 20’s craftsman cottage and releasing two full-length records. Oh did I mention we are both in a band together? On the weekends you can find us kayaking, antiquing or photographing another couple’s big day. Oh, our style?? I don’t know… we’re just us. Alicia always says forest meets formal. I think that sounds nice.
Describe how you envisioned the look & feel of your wedding.
We wanted to create an alfresco dining experience for our guests and us. We loved the idea of eating under the stars in a communal setting and wanted each long table to feel like a Dutch still life. We opted not to have a tent overhead and we really lucked out with the weather and clear skies. At the end of the evening, we all spent time looking at one of the best night skies we could remember.
What did you want your guests to take away from this experience?
We wanted our guests to feel like they came to a beautiful yet casual party more so than a wedding. You know… great food and drinks, a live Jazz trio, and late night bonfires at the most perfect historic northern Michigan farm setting.
What, if any, were your big stressors during the planning process?
Ummmm everything considering we are both perfectionist control freaks.
What advice would you give to newly engaged couples planning their wedding in Northern Michigan?
Get creative and embrace your surroundings. Don’t be afraid to stray from the typical things that everyone expects. Make this day your own. The best thing someone could say is that your wedding really feels like the two you.
