Kayla & Steve’s Cherry Basket Farm wedding was a dream! They are truly the sweetest, most laid back couple and assembled a talented vendor team to bring their vision to life. Kayla answered some questions below, and you can find more images and vendor detail on our weddings page. xoxo

What is your connection to Leelanau County?

I was born and raised in Lake Leelanau. Growing up immerse in all things Leelanau. We spent weekends on the lake in the summer and winters on the lake ice fishing in the winter. Steve’s grandparents are from the Leland area and he has summered in Leland since a young boy. Our two worlds collided when Steve and I were introduced on his farm in the Empire Area. We are happy to still be living a Leelanau lifetime.

Briefly describe your style as a couple.

We are both very easy going individuals who are connected to nature. We love hikes, fishing, biking, and hunting. We both enjoy the outdoors and Steve has a love for ducks. When we are outside we feel happiness together.

Describe how you envisioned the look & feel of your wedding.

Feel good, romantic, earthy vibes is what we were going for. We wanted everyone to feel comfortable, enjoy the outside/farm feel, and eat GOOD FOOD! Whimsical and light hearted.

What did you want your guests to take away from this experience?

We wanted out guests to feel the love we both have for one another though a romantic ceremony, fun cocktail hour, and intimate dinner. We wanted guests to EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY!!! Ultimately we wanted to make it a memorable event for all.

What, if any, were your big stressors during the planning process?

Thanks to Meaghan at Fox and Fern events, we did not have big stressors! I would HIGHLY suggest any new brides to seek out help. Whether it be a day of planner or someone to help you though the entire process, it makes wedding planning SO much more enjoyable. Meaghan was a great boss lady. She had a plan, informed people of the plan, and executed it perfectly the day of.

What advice would you give to newly engaged couples planning their wedding in Northern Michigan?

Start by envisioning your perfect day. and then work to make your dream a reality! Be easy going, HAVE a plan but dont get upset when the plan doesnt work out! Give your bridesmaids and groomsmen choice, they have decided to be apart of your big day, don’t break their bank.  Most of all, enjoy  your day. It was the fastest day of my life. Oh, and get a videographer! Then you can relive your day over and over for years to come!
