What is your connection to Leelanau County?
My (the bride) family has a cottage in Traverse City. Since I was thirteen years old I told my parents I was going to be married in Northern Michigan. We were engaged in Traverse City and naturally married there as well.
Briefly describe your style as a couple.
We are very laid back and always up for a new adventure. We love the outdoors, travel, and new experiences.
Describe how you envisioned the look & feel of your wedding.
As I said before, we are very laid back and far from your traditional couple; we wanted a wedding that reflected this. Pulling onto the property, driving through the big, blossoming trees, and pulling up to the barn gave us butterflies. That was the first indicator we knew we wanted to be married there. Touring the property only confirmed that; it is a perfect combination of rustic elegance. Cherry Basket is not only outwardly beautiful – but is also had an aspect that is very important to us – community. We were very intentional with our vendor selection, with there being so many vendors in this industry it was important to us to select ones that aligned with our values and ones we can emulate. Cherry Basket is just that. The Cherry Basket crew not only has the genuine desire to provide a once in a lifetime experience, but they also support their community in a magnitude of different ways. In short, Cherry Basket Farm is everything we envisioned for our wedding.
What did you want your guests to take away from this experience?
We wanted our guests to take away exactly who we are as people – laid back and fun loving. We also wanted everyone to feel like family. I am more than confident Cherry Basket helped us accomplish this. Our goal was to throw one big, fun party – and it exceeded every expectation!
What, if any, were your big stressors during the planning process?
There really weren’t many stressors – Cammie had every little detail covered.
If you answered yes to the previous question, what were those unique challenges?
Yes, getting up there was difficult – certain things we had to forgo (like cake tasting). While it was difficult these are things we knew were going to provide challenges and we really put a lot of trust in our vendors. (That is why it was so helpful to have a recommended vendor list!)
What advice would you give to newly engaged couples planning their wedding in Northern Michigan?
Enjoy every minute of it. There will be times you will feel stressed or things are not going as planned – take a deep breath – at the end of the day you will be married and happy. On your big day don’t forget to stop and take it all in. It will go by faster than they say – take a moment alone with your partner, stop and watch your guests enjoying themselves, you will not regret it!
